Two Methods For Getting Rid Of Termites
Do you have a problem with termites in your home, but you're not sure about which method to use? Here is what you need to know about two popular termite treatment methods.
Liquid Termite Treatment
One option is to use a liquid termite treatment, which involves pumping a liquid chemical into the ground to create a continuous barrier around your home. While it is very easy to place in the ground when soil is present, there will likely be parts of your yard with concrete that are harder to deal with. Holes will need to be made in the concrete to inject the chemical into these areas to get underneath the cement slab.
The benefit of using a liquid treatment is that it works quickly. Termites are going to die within minutes of being exposed to the liquid, which means that it works efficiently at dealing with a termite problem. The effects will also last for several years without having to perform any maintenance or add new chemicals.
The downside of using a liquid treatment is that all of the dead termites in the ground may act as a repellent to other termites. This may cause them to look for another path into your home, potentially going deeper into the ground to reach it. The poison is also not taken back to a termite colony.
Termite Bait Treatment
The other option is to use a termite bait treatment to take care of the pest problem. It works by having a plastic stake that goes into the ground and contains a stick of termite bait that can easily be replaced. The goal of using termite bait is to act as a source of food that the termites take back to their colony. Once ingested, the bait actually prevents the termites from molting, and they die during the process.
The advantage of using termite bait is that the termites don't associate dying with the bait, so they continue to eat it even after termites have died. The biggest disadvantage is that it can take a while for the termites to die after ingesting the bait. It could actually take several months for the termite colony to be completely wiped out, which may be longer than what you are comfortable with.
