3 Natural Products That Ants Can't Stand

About Me
Keeping My House Cleaner

After experiencing a wretched spider infestation, my pest control professional told me something that I would never forget. In the nicest possible way, she told me that my house was too messy to keep bugs out in the first place. She explained that when people leave food around, it attracts small pests like ants and cockroaches, which then attract larger predators like spiders and mice. I decided to clean up my place so that I wouldn't have to worry about creepy crawlies calling my place home. On my blog, you will learn more about pest control and the importance of house cleaning, so that you don't make the same mistake I did.

If you struggled with ants getting into your home this past summer, there are natural methods that you can employ to keep the ants away from your home.

#1 Cinnamon

Ants do not like either the smell or taste of cinnamon. If you know where the ants like to create paths into your home, you can place cinnamon sticks near the doors and window areas where you know that they like to enter. You can incorporate these cinnamon sticks into your decorations near where ants like to enter your home.

If you don't want to put cinnamon sticks out, you can rub cinnamon essential oils near your windows, door and floor where you know ants like to enter your home. This should help keep the ants away from your home without you having to put out an ant trap or spray any harmful chemicals inside of your home.

#2 Peppermint

Peppermint is another natural flavor that ants can't stand. Luckily, peppermint oil is a great addition to most home-made cleaners so it is easy to spread the smell around your home.

Add some peppermint oil to your favorite home-made general purpose cleaners that you use in your kitchen and in any other area of your home where you have had problems with ants in the past. Use this cleaner every time you clean the ant-infested areas of your home, and the continuous smell and presence of peppermint will eventually help drive the ants away.

#3 White Wine Vinegar

The third smell that ants do not enjoy at all is white wine vinegar. This smell is overwhelming to an ant's senses long after the odor has dissipated beyond most human's ability to smell. Mix some white wine vinegar with water in a spray bottle, and spray around the outside edge of your home.

Although the smell may be strong at first, it will quickly fade away to a degree that only the ants who approach your home will be able to smell it. You'll want to reapply the white wine vinegar around the outside of your home throughout the summertime when the ants are most persistent with getting into your home; water can wipe away the scent.

All three of these scents will help keep the ants away from your home. They are also natural ant removal methods that will not harm your pets, children or other members of your family. These are great, non-toxic means of fighting back against the ants that are trying to invade your home.
