3 Home Remedies You Can Use To Get Rid Of Mold

About Me
Keeping My House Cleaner

After experiencing a wretched spider infestation, my pest control professional told me something that I would never forget. In the nicest possible way, she told me that my house was too messy to keep bugs out in the first place. She explained that when people leave food around, it attracts small pests like ants and cockroaches, which then attract larger predators like spiders and mice. I decided to clean up my place so that I wouldn't have to worry about creepy crawlies calling my place home. On my blog, you will learn more about pest control and the importance of house cleaning, so that you don't make the same mistake I did.

When you notice mold growing in your house, you might start feeling concerned. After all, mold can spread and cause health issues for you and your family. However, there are some things you can do, using things you may already have, to kill mold in your home. Here are some home remedies you can use to eliminate mold.

Vodka

If you're like many people, you may have vodka in your home for making cocktails. However, vodka can also be used to get rid of mold that you see growing in your house. The alcohol in the vodka is what makes it so effective. To use vodka on mold, all you have to do is spray or pour it directly onto the mold. Leave it there a few minutes to allow the alcohol to penetrate the mold spores, and then use a sponge or paper towel to wipe the mold away. The smell of vodka will fade away after a while.

Tea Tree Oil

If you have tea tree oil in your home for handling warts and other skin problems, you may not know that you can also use it for the mold growing in your home. Tea tree oil contains chemicals which are antifungal and antibacterial, so it can kill mold on contact.

Because tea tree oil is so expensive, you may wish to dilute it when you use it. Combine a few drops of it with some water in a spray bottle, and spray the mold. Give the mold some time to absorb the mixture, and then use a sponge to wipe the mold away.

Baking Soda

Baking soda can also be a great tool when you need to eliminate mold. Unlike the other suggestions in this article, baking soda does not have a strong odor, and what's more, it helps neutralize the smell of mold as well as getting rid of it.

Make a paste of baking soda and water, and then apply it to the surface where the mold is growing. After a while, use a hard-bristle brush to scrub the mold away. Dry the area with a paper towel; you might want to leave a thin layer of baking soda on the surface so that mold does not return.

Now that you know some natural ways to eliminate the mold in your house, use the tips above to get started. If you continue to have mold problems or the amount of mold in your home seems overwhelming, contact a local mold remediation contractor like AK Pest Control CVA. Inc. to help you.
