How To Get Rid Of Squirrels In Your Home

About Me
Keeping My House Cleaner

After experiencing a wretched spider infestation, my pest control professional told me something that I would never forget. In the nicest possible way, she told me that my house was too messy to keep bugs out in the first place. She explained that when people leave food around, it attracts small pests like ants and cockroaches, which then attract larger predators like spiders and mice. I decided to clean up my place so that I wouldn't have to worry about creepy crawlies calling my place home. On my blog, you will learn more about pest control and the importance of house cleaning, so that you don't make the same mistake I did.

Squirrels are cute When squirrels are running around outside, jumping from one tree to the next, they are cute. However, that cutest quickly fades when they invade your home and try to take up residence in your attic.

#1 Do Not Use Mothballs

Do not use mothballs to get rid of the squirrels. The Environmental Protection Agency has banned the use of mothballs for this purpose. Mothballs contain toxic vapors. These toxic vapors are heavier than air and will not stay in your attic. They will fall from your attic into your home. Exposure to mothballs is not only harmful to animals, it can be harmful to your health as well. Mothball exposure can be particular harsh on those with asthma and on babies. It can lead to difficulty breathing, headaches, and nausea in adults, and anemia and skin rashes in children.

Yes, mothballs can be used in a safe manner, but the risk behind using them is so high. Additionally, they leave behind a smell that can be extremely difficult to get rid of. It's not worth it to use mothballs to treat the squirrels in your basement.

#2 Lock Them Out

Another way to deal with the squirrels who are in the attic is to lock them out. Like all animals, squirrels have a schedule they tend to stick to. During the daytime, the squirrels are going to be out and about playing. If you pay attention, you will notice when they leave and return to the attic.

You can wait for the squirrels to leave, and then you can lock them out by sealing up the holes they are using to get in and out when you see them leave.

If you know thir schedule, you can seal up where they are getting in and out. Make sure that you don't lock any babies inside your attic; if you do, their parents will get aggressive trying to get back to their little ones.

#3 Get Professional Assistance

Finally, one of the best ways to deal with squirrels in your attic is to get professional assistance. They can use humane wire cages to trap the squirrels and will make sure they get the entire family. Then, they will relocate the squirrels far away from your property so they don't try to get back into your home, which is a possibility when you try to lock them out yourself, as they can be a little territorial about their space.

A professional animal removal company will capture the squirrels in question, relocate them, and seal up your attic so that no one else can get back in.

If you have squirrels making their home in your attic, do not use moth balls to get rid of the squirrels. You can try locking them out on your own or you can get professional assistance from a residential wildlife removal company.
